The Projects with Industry (PWI) program, a grant through the Department of Education, delivers employment services to eligible youth and young adults. In partnership with business and industry in Delaware, PWI staff provides the tools, knowledge and resources to assist program participants to find jobs, keep jobs, and advance in careers. The goal is job stability and career advancement for eligible youth and young adults with disabilities.
Five Employment Consultants work with program participants in Sussex, Kent and New Castle counties to identify vocational goals and create strategies to assist them with finding and keeping employment. The strategies may include finding transportation, creating a volunteer work history to provide necessary references, practicing interviews and shopping for the perfect interview outfit.
A participant in the PWI program is successful when he/she is employed for more than 90 days. HOW SUCCESSFUL is the OCI PWI? As of February 28, 2011, 76 young adults have met this benchmark and 12 more are employed and are expected to meet or exceed 90 days of employment. A goal of an additional 40 are expected to be employed by June 2011.
